What's mostly incongruent on the outcrop is an overlaying colour image map cylindrically projected, but not given sufficient scale to surround the outcrop properly (resulting in the sine wave effect you can see). I think I'll run a test image (one of those chessboard images with numbers used when testing uv mapping) over it in cylindrical projection to determine the optimum scaling. The actual displacement from redirected power fractals and S&O shaders I'm not too unhappy with (maybe on the sharp side for some).
