I didn't quite see a thread for introductions here although there are 23 pages worth of threads here  :o

I did do a search though and found a couple of people introducing themselves.  So at the risk of being new here I thought that I would start an intro thread even though I'm sure that a lot of you have been here and been a member for a long time!

3D is a new hobby for me but it has gotten me quite addicted!  My first 3D program was a very, very early version of Bryce!

I now have both the Terragen and the Terragen2 programs with me having the Terragen program itself for quite a few years.  Terragen2 I have had for a couple of months now.  Although I'm more comfortable with Terragen I can't help but be intrigued by Terragen 2.

On my computer however Terragen 2 takes quite a bit of time to render.  I'm assuming that this is because I have other programs open at the time and I think the most ultimate ideal situation would be for me just to have a computer just for the graphic portions of my work.

Hi Rose,

TG2 can compute *much* more detail than the TG classic ever could. More things to compute take more time, it's not entirely a question whether other things are running in the background.
Most importantly, there's a sticky thread in the discussion forums called "render settings recommendations", which is absolutely a "must-read".

In TG2, it is very easy to use render settings that are way beyond what is required for your scene, and this article is going to help you understand how to make clever choices about your render settings.

I daresay that if one would create a scene that only has the same elements that TG classic was able to use (heightfield, surface coloring and 2D clouds, no GI, and a render quality setting of 0.5), you will probably find that TG2 is actually faster, especially because it is multi-threaded.

Regards,
Frank

Welcome Rose,
This is a Great place to learn and share with other fanciers of TG Classic and TG2.
You are correct to assume that having a second computer to do Graphics is better. That is how my setup is and that way I don't have to concern myself so much with render times. That is unless they are excessively long.
In any case, glad to make your acquaintance and others should be along in a bit to welcome you aboard as well!!!

Happy New Year!!!  ;D ;D ;D

Welcome, Rose. Your best bet in here is to get all 'Indiana Jones' and go digging in here! :)

There's a wealth of knowledge in here and hundreds, if not thousands, of free resources, .tgd's, .tgc's, objects, advices, everything to get you on your way. Just get the ol' hat on and go to work.

Did I mention that we're a friendly bunch and usually you'll get some input on anything you need in no time at all. :)

I still have not read ever thread here. I stopped, newer techniques work better than some of the older advice. The search function works well. After you have read a while, you get to know who has the best advice.

Welcome to the forum!
