Swamp cypress

Dune

An attempt to create a swamp cypress object. Not good enough yet, but I thought I'd share this image. Although it's quite high poly, it seems quite angular, and the trunk needs more dents. I'll get to work again.
@ 2000x1000px, detail 0.5, AA=4, this took 2hours 20minutes, hence the jpg title.

a swamp cypress object.

The wording suggests you're not using Xfrog (or other tree generator) to create it. All the more impressive your modelling skills. One of your tree trunks shows some horizontal notches on its left side, is that by design? Whatever, I think the tree looks very realistic. Looking forward to the finished article.

I hope I realise I don't exist before I apparently die.

They are quite nice, especially if they are built using a 'standard' modeling program. I have tried this, and it is difficult. Good work!

Does it?  Well, I did use XFrog. Unfortunately it is now less impressive  :(

The horizontal notches are shadows from branches, but seem strange indeed. There are no notches in the design. I have to rework the top (it's too visible) and/or give it some more leaves.

Dune,

Good start.

Yes, xFrog needs some people on staff with with a little better programing skills. The software tends to construct tress in a kinda strange logic. However, once you get a hold on it seems a little easier. Try building your tress in sections as apposed to one single trunk. If you construct the Cypress with a short 1st section you can displace that for the root system then build upward in sections for a more divers branch system. I just figured this out myself.

Have fun.

Marc

Note: Increase your segments on the trunk to around 25-39 under the primitive tab. This will help a lot. Also, a small amount of deviation.

looking good so far, be nice to see some tangled roots above the waterline, as is though this has a very swampy feel for sure!
...edit...reminds me of this..:  http://behance.vo.llnwd.net/profiles4/110181/projects/321502/1101811254911707.jpg

@MGebhart: I did already apply all things you mention, and already got it fixed. Thanks anyway! I also made some 'knees' with some ferns attached. An update will come soon as soon as I have figured out how to gain access to the internet again on my main pc. It is acting weirdly (pinging ip works, there is information going up and down, but IE, Opera, Outlook etc. cannot get access, and I have erratic scroll behavior in explorer, text editors and such.) I suspect a virus, and probably have to install all from nix.

Looking very good. I think you have made the swamp look just right.

(I am on the third roof construct. ::) )

very Nice. You even have some Cypress knees sticking up out of the water  8) 8) 8)

Zairyn Arsyn

oh yeah, dune, are all of the cypress knees slanted like that?
there not supposed to do that in real life, they stand stright up, not slanted.

the cypress trees look awesome btw.
