Here is a new image finally!  Nothing I've done recently has been worth showing so I'm happy to finally get something half decent put together.  I don't think it's finished yet as the foreground could use a bit more interest, but I am happy with the tree'd areas anyway.

Ryan , i like this image   :)

The only thing that i can say is the lower part needs like you said a little more work .
The grass - leaf things needs a little more randomness and variation and maybe less would be better too ( Edit : they look a little like spiders now) . Maybe some grass and little stones?

But it is a nice image.

very nice, agree about the fg...what about a giraffe? :)

Nice image! I think it might be cool if you tilted the camera up so the bush-line was almost at the bottom of the screen. But that's just my two cents since I always like images with a wide open sky. I'm looking forward to what you do with this one!

This is shaping up to be one of your best. If you add any fauna, I think some mega fauna from 3 million years ago would be cool. There may also be a couple of Walli's dry shrubs which might work.

Keep going. This is a very interesting image.

Wonderful work....I agree about the foreground...the leaves and needles seem a bit uniform or flattened...still, a superb render.

The point of view and the tree disbursement is perfect. The foreground however is just a bit to bright with reflectivity. Perhaps a darker color would improve this.

If you cut it off horizontally, just shortly before the first bushes in the foreground, this is pretty much photo real, Ryan!
Looking forward to where you'll be taking this :)

Thanks for the comments and suggestions everyone.  Here is a second version, with a redone foreground and a couple animals.  I just realized I forgot to turn soft shadows back on, so I am going to re-render again to see if it looks any different.

Now this is just beautiful Ryan. Your choices of dry ground covers and soil color are a perfect compliment to the trees and total composition.

FrankB

the foreground is looking very cool now, very convincing!
I also like the idea with the animals, although I reckon they should be half their size.

Frank
