trying to get the sky and lighting right on overcast skies...

Henry Blewer

I have been trying to do this for a long time. I like cloudy days. If I get the sky right, the land is too dark. Well, that was my complaint for the day, thank you for reading...

Looks nice! I really like the lighting and everything else look fine too besides some very little things. But I think you achieved your main goal very well!

Great Frank, very smooth.

FrankB

thanks guys

the next is a thicker cloud, darker variant.... logically the light cast from the sky is a bit less.

Tangled-Universe

The sky is so awesome! :D
Maybe you could balance it more by decreasing the GI in the atmo and then increasing exposure?
This way you should be able to get a similar exposed sky but more exposed ground in post.

Martin

I LOVE the clouds in the second one!

FrankB

Thanks guys. Funny, I didn't expect any replies to this really. I mean, realistic overcast skies are not exactly an enticing outlook ;)
Anyway, here is a third variant... and that's it for now :)

... well one more maybe :)

Cheers,
Frank

I guess because it's a challenge in terms of lighting?

I haven't really tried yet, but diffuse lighting through clouds seems to be pretty difficult and I haven't seen such a scene so far.

that, plus how do you get enough light on foliage, so that it looks decently realistic? It can easily be overdone, too.

FrankB

ok, last one, in a more artistic fashion, darker, more sinister weather brewing...

dandelO

All lovely, Frank, I like the second one best. Couple that with the lighting on surfaces in the third one and you have a real winner! Not an easy balancing act, ha! :)

Very nice!

Henry Blewer

I like the last render best. It has great drama from the clouds.

Ditto on the second variant.
