1966 VW Beetle, from DMI3d....Walli's Pines, and Lightning's grasses, car paint shaders available from the file sharing section. thanks for dropping by!

for the shaders check here: http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=9880.0

not bad! Probably a little less reflective and some more fresnel. But thats probably because I never have seen an old beetle in that good condition ;-)

Hannes

Yes, really nice, but the reflection is way too strong!

inkydigit

damn, took me ages to polish it!...I will try a more worn and dusty shader next!

inkydigit

ps thanks for commenting!

cyphyr

Now that is darn nice :)

The reflectivity of the paint is the only issue. But I have seen cars with paint jobs to look this reflective. Cool image.

Very nice!
On the windshield and the lamps "real" glass would be nice To avoid shadows of the glass here is what I am doing:
Load the model a second time.
Cast shadows = no!
Set on all shader except the glass the opacity to 0.
The shaders for the glass: http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=8031.msg85908#msg85908

thanks folks, @ klas, do I have to make the glass invisible on the first object when loading the object twice? also, instead of loading the whole object twice, can I separate the glass and use this as a second object?
thanks for the link/tips for the glass, I will get this sorted for the next models....
cheers
Jason
:)
Edit...separated glass parts and loaded as a second object, will post result later...

choronr

Now you and Martchi got me thinking about doing an automotive sketch in the desert. Very good render Jason!

@inkydigit: Yes, the opacity on the glass shader to 0 for the first car. If you want to modify the mesh:  Separate the glass from the car works, but I have had some problems with blender and smoothing: (http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=7702.msg82275#msg82275 ), but with 3d studio max it is ok (I have tested it with the 30-day trial version)

/edit:
1. Here is another Model of this car, with interior: http://gfx-3d-model.blogspot.com/2008/09/volkswagen-beetle-old-3d-model.html
2. I think you can use Poseray to split the model

inkydigit

thanks Bob and Klas,
@ Klas, yeah blender can really mangle some meshes...quite annoying, I will check the mac port of poseray...cheers for the link, dl'd but cant open in blender so I will try something else.

Klas

I have had no problems with this model and blender - I tried the 3ds file. But separation and scaling are done with poseray:

inkydigit

mmm. I shall try again, I get weird error message when importing 3ds files, blender mac bug I think? I will have another go
