Title: Terrain merge using Highest raise (but with a smooth blend) ?
Post by: cyphyr on February 15, 2017, 03:29:55 PM
I think I saw how to do this once but can't find it on the forums now (must be using the wrong search terms)

I want to merge a spikey terrain with a flat one so I have  the spikes poking through the flat surfave, easily done (see pic).

But how can i make the transition from flat to spikey terrain a lilttle smoother/softer? Almost like there is a build up of sand or earth about the base of the "spikes".

I suspect this is blue node magic but I don't know where to begin ...

Cheers

I suspect a duplicated planet is involved.Check out Rene's work, he uses that a lot

You can use the "soft maximum" function. Blue nodes, yes, but should be fairly straightforward. There's an example scene here:

Thankyou, looks like is usedes a different way of achieving the same effect (plus the soft blend) as the Merge shader. I shall investigate...
