Hello,
It's a long time since the last update of TG2, when will be available a new update? Thanks!
We're working on a 2.2 update with some nice new features. No release date at this time, but you can probably expect it "some time this summer".

Any sneak peeks or screenies at the new features?
We'll have some promotional material this time around. It will be announced here first...

Sweet! :)

August 13th is my birthday...
*wink*wink*nudge*nudge* hehe.
But in all seriousness, I'd rather see a delayed release then a buggy one. You guys have a good history of smashing bugs out, hope to see you guys keep it up.
You guys keep an old mind churning ...keep on!
All good news, looking forward to it, bring it on!!
:)
Richard
Will you give us a definite answer that SSS will appear in the update?
I know this is a demanding question asked by others in the forums but I'm getting tired of using tranlucensy (or however you spell it) trying to get the ice perfect that I'm doing for render :(

It is not in the next update.

Now that the kids are back in school, isn't summer over? ;)
:) ;) :D

he's got a really good point you know... watching the Adventures of Pete & Pete taught me that.
it's gotten cooler in the mornings too around here too also'
Cmon guys you know how it works round these parts :D
:'( But summer is o-o-o-o-o-ov-er-er-er
just because school holidays are over doesn't mean that the summer is over!
When September has passed, then summer is over if you ask me ;)
First snowfall.
I think when Oshyan posted to expect it "some time this summer", he was refering to the Southern hemisphere not the Northern hemisphere. ;D
:D :D lol

so people in the southern hemisphere get the update first? no fair.
darn southern hemisphere
No. No. No.
What I meant was that "This summer" in the southern hemisphere will start in the comming months.
hahaha, :)
i realised that... after i posted. whoops
Is it possible to get some info on new features we can expect from the new version?
I want automatic cappuccino out of my DVD tray when I'm doing long, final previews ;-)
Any info(s) and/or release date on the new update yet? It's like the end of summer already :(
Yeah..... I'm not mad cause of the delay, but a little info wouldn't hurt ;)
Regards,
Terje
yes, some info on whats up would be nice..
;)
First snowfall can be Halloween or Christmas. I think Happy New Year will probably be the release.
From the threads and images I have seen which make beta test references, we will all be quite happy. Patience...

Hear; hear Henry!
njeneb,
Can you list the threads and images so I can drool over my keyboard, short out my PC, justifing the upgrade :D of my core 2 duo to a quad core.
Hi everyone,
We're getting there. At the moment we're just sorting out the loose ends on the last big feature for this release. There are a few significant new features in this release, but primarily it's been about fixing problems and smaller improvements to existing features.
Although this release has taken longer than we wanted to get out, there has actually been a considerable amount of development effort during this time which is aimed toward future releases. The prime example of this is 64 bit support. All of the heavy lifting for this has been done and once we can get this next release out we'll get a 64 bit version to alpha testers and start getting that into shape for a public release.
One thing I will say is that the Mac version will be a public beta. This is because it's now using Cocoa for it's underpinnings, which is a pretty big change. It's working well but we want to try it with a wider audience before we call it final release quality.
Regards,
Jo
I don't get snow where I live, but it's still fall or winter.
I don't really care when the next version comes out as long as it's not next year. Maybe my birthday - nov 23? ;D
Anything that makes micro-adjustments (read - small scenes, not huge landscapes) more friendly and useful would be nice. Even more than improvements to render engine.
Thanks Jo. We're all getting exited and intensely curious what the new improvements and features will be.
Great. Thanks for stepping by Jo
Regards,
Terje

Any progress :) ?
Could do with a "pick me up"
:-[
Richard
Hi Richard,
Getting there! Alpha testers have the latest release and if things look to be in good shape we'll be able to go to a release candidate shortly.
Regards,
Jo
Good news then!
How about releasing some metaphorical data about upcoming release so we can start playing a guessing game about what exactly the new features will be? ;-)
Just kidding, I know that developers hate when being pushed about this stuff :) But on the other side... that would be a funny thing indeed ;-)
Duly "picked up". Got a smile from this end :)
Good news
Richard
this gonna be great, i feel the excitement in the air ;)
cant wait till it comes out.
Here's a list of major changes and new features for the upcoming 2.2 release, to whet your appetite.
- Optional wireframes in the 3D preview, with per-object/population controls
- Cloud localization, allowing explicit controls for constraining cloud layers to a specific size and location, as well as click-and-drag repositioning on all axis; localized clouds are faster to render
- Cloud shadow maps, offering an additional rendering speed boost for localized clouds
- New cloud control inputs (Altitude Offset, Depth Modulator, Final Density Modulator), allowing significantly greater cloud shape control and special effects like "clouds follow terrain"
- Raytraced atmosphere option, resulting in faster and lower noise atmosphere rendering in many cases
- New option "anisotropic enviro light" in atmosphere and clouds allows more accurate light scattering simulation
- GI prepass padding (similar to ray detail region padding, but for GI samples), helps address issues with GI mismatch at crop and frame edge boundaries
- Bucket rendering controls for adjusting the size of rendering tiles, which can affect rendering speed and efficiency
- Light source falloff distance controls added
- Render viewer can show RGBA channels separately and alpha can be saved from render view
- Added Rule of Thirds composition guides to 3D Preview
- A number of significant bug fixes
- Other minor feature additions
More info soon. Please note that, as per previous policy, this update will initially only be available for registered users.
- Oshyan
This is gonna be great!
Regards,
Terje
this is gonna be (%_#+%$*% awesome
:) 8)
i'm thinking of the update sorta being a early Xmas or birthday present
Looks more like a 2.5 list ! Very nice :)
Keep 'em coming!
Also:
QuoteCloud localization, allowing explicit controls for constraining cloud layers to a specific size and location, as well as click-and-drag repositioning on all axis; localized clouds are faster to render
w00t!
A quick and easy way to do clouds on the horizon maybe?
And, whet the appetite your message did. Living and learning is the way - the journey is the best part. Wouldn't it be a dream if Terragen 2 and World Machine became one?
w00t!!!
Ranged falloff on light source - just what I was looking for
This update IS incredible, I can tell you that!
Great news, every feature described so far I'd use from day one :)
So what's "...with per-object/population controls". I've been hoping for a rotational limit control (ie limit rotation to every 30º)
and I wonder if other "guide proportions" could be used added, such as Golden Section and Vitruvian Man.
Richard
They take an age to come out (updates that is) but when the do they always deliver.
Some nice updates there, looks like there has been some improvements in the way we can control clouds, that has always been one of the more difficult aspects for me.
This looks very, very promising :)
Sounds excellent!

The per-object/population controls refer to wireframe view in the 3D Preview. It just means you can control whether a given object or population displays as wireframe, bounding box, or is invisible. So you can have all your "hero" objects in wireframe for example, and then set your population to bounding box, and make other things invisible if you don't need to see them.
No control over rotation "steps" or anything yet.

Throw a couple of screen captures up Oshyan..
Does this mean I can make contrails without needing ogre's geometry?
If you're referring to the cloud locality controls, they could potentially be used for something like that, but I don't know if it would be a better, or even as good effect.
- Oshyan
I can't wait. Thanks for the update.
This really sounds especially intriguing to me - "New option "anisotropic enviro light" in atmosphere and clouds allows more accurate light scattering simulation"
Holy cow! That's one monster update! Thank you Planetside for all the hard work you do to provide such an excellent product!
Yeah... some screens would be cool :)
- Terje
Screens about what? :) It are the same kind of windows, only with new parameters ;D
Hehe. I actually meant example images. Renders to be more precise.

Ghehe, of course I knew that :)
Well, basically all the renders posted here by the alpha testers from the last couple of months use the new anisotropic scattering in atmosphere and clouds.

Any chance of a popper fix for the transparency/shadow casting bug (http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=8949.0)? I've spent all day making a very detailed model that won't hardly be seen where a simple bent plane with a working transparency channel would have done just fine !!
:)
Richard
Où, il faut faire la mise a jour dans leur site ou dans le logiciel ?
Si, c'est dans le logiciel ca fait rien.... ???
Quite a bit on the atmosphere updates. What about terrain features?

This works better with an imported object (which can be a plane of course). Imported objects with an opacity map do cast transparent shadows where the opacity map is black. (It's still only on/off transparency however.)
we all cried out for transparency on water, how about shore foam, or just foam?
not read all the posts in this thread..BTW so i dont know if this has been mentioned b4
The update is not yet available bla bla. If you are a registered user, you will be notified of the update by the software when you start it. We will be publishing more information and a release date soon.

Richard, I don't think that bug is fixed this time, but we'll get it in a future release (I could be wrong, the change log is long and I don't have it in front of me).
No built-in shore foam yet, but there are a number of different approaches people have created with good results.
- Oshyan
Thank you, Oshyan.
