Here's yet another "Sponza Palace Atrium" scene as used and inspired by dandelO in his "Atrium" pic a while ago. This time with a couple of Poser Cats for another mood. This is a really good model for testing and playing around with lighting and GI settings.
@ dandelO did you resize the model to real world dimensions? The original is some 3Km in length! and atmosphere/haze settings make it difficult to get a clear image. I resized down and found GI much easier to control.
All good fun.
I must admit that I am surprosed how well TG handles this kind of scenes. Of course there are some weaker points, but considering from what direction TG is coming!
This is superb!
Wow! This is great! The only thing that makes the scene look a bit strange are the cat's eyes. Everything else is just great! Keep up that reat work.
Hi, Kevin. Yes I rescaled the model, it was bloody huge, indeed.
Nice take on the scene, I think the only part that isn't as 'up there' as the rest is the face of the nearest cat. Otherwise, lovely! :)
Here's another take on this scene. Done quite a few internally lit scenes with this model lately, but this one I think is worthy of showing.
It's meant to be "Sponza atrium by moonlight". The sun is very dim (0.75), with 10 other internal lights. I'd really like TG to have directional lighting, but this is the best I can do. There are 4 on the ground floor, 2 at the far end 1st floor and 4 each on the 1st floor side corridors.
Again the GI settings are high as per dandelO's method (thanks).
C&C welcome.
Hello Kevin, it's a beautiful scene. My only quibble is that moonlight tends more toward stark white and this seems to have more of a yellow-ish hue.

Striking work on this one!
Thanks guys, but I can't take too much credit for this, after all the model is provided and comes with all the texture maps etc. so it's just a matter of applying them correctly. I found it very rewarding trying to get the lighting right to suit various situations. It's not often that you get a nearly completely enclosed environment to play with in TG. I think TG holds up really well when you consider that it's not optimised for internal GI.
And just for you Cam, here's a white moonlight version. Thanks for the info re moonlight - you were right the original was yellowish. The subtle change in this version was worth the extra render. Cheers.

Nice, very nice! :)
The moon lit version is surprisingly nice. Very subtle and pretty realistic.

I would go much, much bluer with the moonlight, to contrast with the internal lighting.
Oh yes, and the internal light sources a tiny little bit more yellowish.
as per Matt's comments here's a blue moon version.
I can see what you mean about the contrast, and it does look quite realistic. It gives it a silvery moon quality.
Thanks for the comments guys.
Yeah, that's what I mean :) I'd be inclined to push it even bluer, and brighter, and follow Hannes' idea too.
Last one! bluer and brighter. And yes, better I think.
Looks good really :)
Fantastic! Now you can really see that there are two different kinds of light.
Yes, I like the increased color contrast. I would only say there now appears to be a little green in the moon light? But otherwise it's excellent.

beautiful scene!
:)
Thanks guys.
@Oshyan, if you see green it must be from a mix of the blue moonlight and the yellow wall lights. None of the lights have any green.
Perhaps, but it is by far most prevalent in the direct light from the moon source, especially on the lower-right. It's possible you just chose a slightly more green shade of blue (depending on how you used the color picker). Anyway, relatively minor detail. A little adjustment in Photoshop fixed it on my end. ;)

Wow...saves me doing the night experiments, I have a target to match...attached is my experiment with interior lighting...3 shadowless, glowless interior lights, Ambient Occlusion at 2 and G I at 2 as well with full sun coming thru the opening. I added a cumulus cloud on the ground for atmosphere at a barely discernible level but it helps. Reflection shaders in full use, heh heh heh, floor, columns, planters and hanging light bowls
Many thanks to Dandel0 for posting that link. I had this model before but sans all the cloth, planters and textures...this was fun
