Title: Irish scene

Since I've been to Ireland for a week, I was inspired to try and recreate some of the landscape. I shot a lot of sea/beach/wave photo's, so I might want to give those a go with the painted shader and stuff.

But first some hills...
First image is a real photograph, second is a render. Photo is the closest thing I could find, didn't shoot a lot of hills it turns out.
The render is currently rendering bigger, soon to follow.

Everything is procedural, even the path. I decided to try the intersect underlying effect. So a green surfacelayer with perlin billows displacement favours rises, and a sandy surfacelayer favours depressions. A small powerfractal on the grass layer gives a TG 0.9 kind of look. I tries grass populations, but those didn't turn out very well.

Looks promising so far! I like the way you've TG0.9-ed the grasses ;) Good use of intersect underlying features as well.
Looking forward to see where this goes.

Yeah, I really like the effect that you came up with. Just an idea from an artistic standpoint: it would look a lot more interesting (although perhaps a little less realistic) if the mist were more blotchy.

Good work. The procedurals indeed have a sense of lots of vegetation being present.

The haze is just the atmospheric haze density at 10 and overcast sky. I could add a cloud layer at some point.

If someone could find me some grass models that are more flat, more horizontal rather than vertical, I might use those for the foreground... and then it would look more like the first one hopefully.

I like the grass with dark heather patches, and as long as the pov isn't too near the ground this procedural bump or image map method is fine. I would try and make the gully that holds the path shallower and more U-shaped so that the path texture sits better on the bottom. This scene has great potential. ps: I'm sure it's possible to adjust the height and direction of grass objects.

I like it, too. However, the image would benefit greatly from more dynamic lighting and more saturated colors. Especially for Ireland.
As for the grass objects: maybe from this camera altitude, you could go into the object node and decrease the vertical scale of the object a little bit, making the grass patch more broad than tall.

I really like those clumps of bushes.  Can you post a clip of that shader?  I'm trying to get a similar effect on my Scottish terrain.

Saturation is best done in post for better control.
As for dynamic lighting, any ideas? I could have the sun shine through the clouds from the front, like in the below photograph of the only bit of sunshine we had all week we were in Ireland.

I'm trying to improve this image, and I got the sun through the clouds like in the last photo I posted above.
But to get any more realism, I really need a specific plant that grows there a lot.
I posted some shots in this thread just a few posts back. I found out the official name of the plant is 'Ulex europaeus', and it would be great if someone could help me out here.

Any ideas where to find models of this particular plant?
