Created from a .ter file which was gleaned from a DEM of a beautiful place in southern Texas. Thanks to Luc for the cloud file; and, lightning for the bushes and trees.
Very nice! Have to let me know to make rivers, I haven't successful in finding any tutorials. The clouds are amazing, Their depth is awesome
Luminos, that cloud file is available here http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=5490.msg56723#msg56723 if you want to use it yourself. Be prepared for long render times though!
Just what i need....lol. Thanks!
I like the scope of it and the setting with the river is moving toward becoming more realistic, but it seems too hazy overall to me.

This terrain has a river (Rio Grande) running along around the mesas. All I did was to add the 'Lake' function and the water appeared. I had to adjust the depth to a point where it filled the depression where the river runs.

the clouds look like god is punching someone.

It is funny you mention this; I got the same thoughts when I completed the render.

Some modifications here. Same terrain as last image; but, a morning view. This time I used FrankB's Cumulus Humilis revised file ...thanks Frank.

You're welcome ;)
You need to increase the samples in the atmosphere though. Some grain here and there. Otherwise this is looking very nice. I like the bushes a lot. Have you used the painted shader for their distribution? Nice sense of scale in this render, better than in the previous one.

Frank

Thank you for the tip Frank. I have used the Painted shader for distribution here; and, found that the repositioning of the sun made a positive impact on the vegetation.

You can clearly say that Bob. Those bushes look just great! They look like they "are really there"...very realistic, like it!
The big shadows on the terrain could benefit from some extra detail. Upping atmo-samples, but also and more important, GI might do the trick.
Great scene!
Martin
very very good looking bushes Oô

Thank you Martin; yes, will have to try your suggestions. I've been thinking that I have tried both a late afternoon and morning shot; now, maybe I'll try a nighttime build perhaps with a rising moon and some fill lights to give the moon some light on the terrain ...we'll see.

Nice images. I'm surprised no one has found the scale to be off though. For my eye those terrain shapes look a lot bigger than the bush size would suggest. I would personally do smaller bushes, maybe 1/3 this size. Would give a lot more scale to the scene. I think that would fit better especially with the big, dramatic clouds in the 1st image too. But a nice image regardless.

Thanks Oshyan, points well taken. I did try smaller vegetation; but, on the first image, I had a lot of over-reflectivity. The bush color setting was a Lampert; and, didn't have a reflectivity setting. After I mixed the bushes with some trees, I was able to reduce the reflections. I agree though that smaller vegetation would enhance the image.
I'm doing a night version of this now and will reduce the scale ...we'll see what happens.
