The thing was never switched off but I had to today and when I switched back on all I got was an off clicking noise from the pc beeper, one hd spinning up and no lights or activity, fans etc anywhere else :(
Changed out the bios battery, made some other checks, power supply, connections etc to no avail.
Oh well, looks like my upgrade plans have been forceably brought forward, its gons start to cost too much to find and replace the bits since my plan was to upgrade during the summer, couple of months time. If I just fix my current problem itt'll cost me something like £200, a guess but its at least the MoBo and I fear a power spike that may have fried other components, its all too much to replace for the sake of a few months. I'm just praying the HD's are ok, havn't made a bacckup on ages.
So it looks like I'll be buying an i7 in the near future, any users have any reccomendations about MoBo's, ram etc (almost cirtainly getting an i7 920 @2.6ghz) for best "Bang for Buck"
I'll be checking out my HD's tommorow, wish me luck ...

Wish you good luck.
I always like the better RAM, like what you can get at Newegg - Crucial, Kingston or Corsair. Of course, I always read through the reviews.
Thats always a bummer... Goodluck with that.
though in a very odd way i envy you, for the excuse to get an i7
For swiss prices you will get something really great for ~480£.
Intel Core i7 920 D0 BOX
Asus P6T mainboard
Corsair 3x2GB DDR3-1600 Ram Kit
The great thing about the Corei7 with D0 stepping: its overclockable till something around 4.6 GHz. :D

Indeed, if you can you should check this Richard. Very good tip Goms.
Also, if you compare DDR3-RAM for using with i7: I've read on different sites that there isn't much use in using faster memory than the 1600 for example. The increase in performance is minimal, but the pricing is.
Really bummer for your PC, know how it feels :( I hope your drives are still ok!

Make backups!!! I lost a lot of work years ago when my drive crashed. Never again. Even after half a days work on complicated stuff, I stick in a 2gig USB and copy the lot. Once a week I stick an external drive in and synchronize everything (FreeCommander works perfect), even synchronize that again to another spare machine. Lost work is vèry frustrating.
Good luck.
