This is a modified version of a render I posted elsewhere (on reflection didn't like the clay-ie look of the sandy surface in the original).
John
The displacement on the near side of the massif is a little strange. I like what you did everywhere else. Very nice render.
Yeah - not keen on the displacements on the butte - but the ground-based ones are good, as are the surface colours, lighting and clouds
Soften the strata edges as there to sharp.
A favorite- I still like it mucho, John. Very cool displaced funky forms and strata! Linda
What's mostly incongruent on the outcrop is an overlaying colour image map cylindrically projected, but not given sufficient scale to surround the outcrop properly (resulting in the sine wave effect you can see). I think I'll run a test image (one of those chessboard images with numbers used when testing uv mapping) over it in cylindrical projection to determine the optimum scaling. The actual displacement from redirected power fractals and S&O shaders I'm not too unhappy with (maybe on the sharp side for some).

That sounds like a really good approach to solve it. Looking forward to see where you come up with.
I like your strata in this image, the way you can follow them from the left of the image to the center, works nice :)

Good plan John. It's the only flaw in a fantastic render.
nice render ...
Do you know that mountain like these exist in the south of algeria (north Africa) we call them "El Hoggar"

Happy New Year All!!!!!

No, no, don't be. I'm glad you posted these pics of Hoggar. Back in October I made a "hoggar" without realizing it. I thought it might be too unrealistic for the more conservative pallette among us, so I didn't carry on with it or post it, but now that I've seen some real hoggar I don't have to be bashful any longer ;D Sadly I've lost the tgd for this scene so I can't refine or develop it.
John
Yes that it was....try to find your Tgd... :-\
