Title: How Strata and outcrops shader works
Post by: PabloMack on March 02, 2014, 01:14:53 PM
I have been playing around with the Strata and Outcrops Shader V2. My impression is that the Strata and Outcrops Shader only does some erosion like effect for each stratum layer that it creates but doesn't actually add material to the terrain. This is actually what I want. It seems that the "Hard Layer Altitude" tells it where to start and then it goes on up from there with no upper limit. I tried putting a Distribution Shader V4 in there to limit the top and bottom altitudes but it doesn't seem to have any effect. I would like to create a zone where there is visible stratification but leaves the terrain as it would otherwise be without the shader below a specifed lower limit and above a specified upper limit as is selectable in the Distribution Shader V4. Any ideas?

Try masking the shader with a simple shape.  :)

Shapes should control horizontal distribution, not vertical. I want to control altitude.

Yippy! That does what I want. I now need to integrate this into my brain cells so I dont' forget how you did it.
