Experimenting around with a bit of Gaea terrain and some voronoi spikes. I think the spikes in the distance look quite good, not sure about the foreground. Heightfield blending left some odd lines, but they're kind of interesting.
I like this scene a lot. Looks great. Maybe the foreground spikes could have their bases fractal warped with a alt limit to breakup the voronoi shapes at the base. I imagine a masked crater shader could give you a similar terrain.
Playing with the voronoi spikes from this scene some more. Added some more blockiness to the spikes to break them up a bit. A close up of a foggy alien lake where something lurks beneath.
I like this.
I don't think I'd want to hang around a planet with such large beasts a' lurkin'.
