Part 1:

1. Start a new default project.
2. Add a fractal terrain and set the seed at 999.
3. Change nothing else.
4. Press F3 and then Alt+R.
5. Post your render time for a 640x480 pic at 0.5 detail.

Mine's 5:38

Part 2:

Without moving the camera or alterering the original fractal terrain seed, create something awesome with the default scene from part 1. Change or add any other settings you need to, but work with the original landscape and camera angle.

I'll be back later with my render.  :)

Power Fractal or Alpine?

Power - 0:34
Alpine - 1:18

Both have a pretty sweet viewpoint for making a scene I agree.

Well, I got 3:52.

Keep in mind that some of us may use a different default scene (I think it was FrankB that provided a nice default substitute.)

Hahaha, yeh I put just under $1000 in upgrades on it earlier this year.  i7 2.8 ghz, 8 gigs of GDDR3 1600, and a ATI Radeon 5850 (as I play games a lot).

The i7 has definitely made Terragen awesome :P

@jaf,

I just rendered with Frank's default. However, I think kevnar wanted the Default that ships with Terragen.

But the system isn't fully OC'ed yet (got it yesterday^^) so I guess there is still some room for improvement.  ;D

It is quite a nice seed.

2.56 for me.

Hi,

On the Mac with the power fractal terrain:

16 threads : 1:10
16 threads, default heightfield deleted (makes a big difference on the Mac) : 0:42

8 threads: 0:59
8 threads, default heightfield deleted : 0:31

Regards,

Jo

Is that a mac only thing, or will deleting the default help always?  I just assumed an un-generated default wouldn't cause any issues.  I usually delete it anyways when working but probably good to know ;).

Yes, they way I worded that was confusing and I knew which default we were supposed to use.  I was thinking some are using FrankB's default scene and forget it wasn't the original.  :)

Not sure what you mean by "Add a fractal terrain" -- I just changed the seed in the default heightfield generator to 999, hit F3 and Alt r --

40 seconds.
