Can we really say why someone would choose to use Vue for this, when TG2 is so much more realistic?  Is it the integration difficulty?

This isn't about Vue bashing.  I'm just wondering what is really going on.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

I wish some people who have integrated using Vue and / or Terragen might give their insight.  It seems to be that his work could be even better with TG2.

Vue is exceptionally good at populating forests and plants and such internally, with each instance being unique.
Managing such variety in TG2 is quite a task, both for the computer, and the brain. :-\

It also works as a plugin to many of the high-end 3D app's with all Vue's features enabled in the parent application.

Eon has many programmers. Planetside does not. Honestly I am amazed at the work they do release. I must admit that I am becoming more and more curious about the next release. What new features? What is improved on?

i think the eco system of vue is a really big point pro-vue.
in the other hand, tg2 has a more open system; therefore the limits for at least still images are very wide.

i would love to see a eco system build in with tg2, featuring tg2-internal objects like the plane and sphere objects....

I agree with Goms. That ecosystem capability is the number one thing I envy Vue users for. Built-in, random shape, animateable vegetation is just an awesome concept. I don't think vue plants look good up close, but they are great at a medium distance. Also, vue'l lighting seems to work just great with ecosystem plants.

For Terragen, it would already be a huge winner, if the user could specify a population mix of various species, at configurable densities, all in an easy to use user interface. That's my personal number one item on my wishlist.

Cheers,
Frank

yep. depending on the way its written, the populator should be easy to change to work like this. I think it shouldnt be that hard to add a function that combines two or more objects.
Another thing would be to avoid clipping, but thats something else.  ;D

but i think we just have to wait. as said before, vue has an army of programmers; planetside isn't that big.
even if they work 24/7 on tg2, they still need some time.
(and then imagine all our feature requests; fractal erosion, 64 bit, this, that, and please a coffee with milk :D)
