Poser Hair and Transparency Maps

Hello,
I been experimenting with importing Poser characters via the obj import. So far I've had great success with one exception. Hair consists of a image map for diffuse and a transparency map to make the hair "hair-like". Unfortunately the transparency map doesn't produce very good results - the end result lacks the detail I get in Poser or Daz or Carrara. Is there any way to tweak the transparency map or its settings to catch the fine detail required for hair?

I would do a search here as there has been plenty of discussion. Its not TGs strong point shall we say.

So far we cannot do modulated opacity; it is either on or off.

Hi,
I am creating my own transmaps for hairs because we do not have real transparency in TG2, an example below. Also you should add a bump (displacement) map to the hair, I am using shadermap pro to create the maps but also a greyscaled texture should work.
The transmap is for koz's short bob.

Klas,

Excellent idea and one I should have figured out for myself. I have Crazy Bump so it should work quite well.
Thanks for the tip.

Klas, how are you able to get the greyscale oppacity to work?  I can only get it to be on or off, with no gradation of transparency.

Klas

Greyscale oppacity doesn't work in TG2  :(^2 . The transmaps I am creating are black and white. If the maps are big and the lines are fine enough and you are using a soft pixel filter you get something like "fake" transparency.

Hallo Klas: Do you have an example (pic)of this hair model done in Terragen 2? I would like to see how your results turned out using a "fake transparency" work around, and thanks for your continuing CG contributions/tips.

Klas

Sorry, no render of the short bob - it was my first try. You can see some of my renders at terralights.de, http://www.terralights.de/terralightsII/coppermine/displayimage/album=126/pid=3685.html here you can see what I mean with "fake" transparency.

Klas,

In another thread you mention a script you wrote to assist with using DAZ characters in TG2, but there is no
link to it. Would it be possible to repost it here? I've looked over your work and you have pushed TG2 to the point that I'm going to concentrate on learning how to do the things you have done and stop wasting my time
lusting after Vue's Poser import. Thank-you in advance.

Thank-you! But mostly thank-you for directing me to Terragen.org. I've been looking for a website/community like that.
