3D map of the entire surface of our planet!

Two German radar satellites are now flying in tight formation as they prepare to make the most detailed ever 3D map of the Earth's entire surface.
Now the question is:  where can we download that DEM file?  (might be a tad big)  LOL .  -Bill .

Saw this and it does look both interesting and hopeful. The issue will of course be, who owns the data?
I'd love to get some decent resolution data of my local area but last time I checked it was coming in at £500 a tile and I'd need at least 4 tiles. (The tiles meet in the midle of my town)

Yeah a very interesting project. I do expect the price to be a bit steep for hobbyist tho ;)
