Orthophoto flipped on X axis

I'm applying a photo on a terrain and for some reason it is inverted.  How come? (for now I'm checking flip x to correct it, but I want to know why it is displaying reversed.)

What format is the image?

.tif  just like the others which display with no problem.  This one is 10250 px square; the only other time this happened to me was with another large image, but I'm using others of large size that are fine.
