Beyond the Death Zone

The death zone starts at 8000m; a height where to human body
starts the decompose itself. Luckily with terragen we can easily
reach those heights with a warm cup of coffee  ;D

My goal is to get a realistic looking high alpine surface and mood.
I am already very content with my current snow and glacier
settings. The green parts need some tweaking.

This first image is merely to show you the progress thus far; I
haven't done any compositional work on this, for it would
probably distract your attention from the actual surface.

I'll abandon my current Corsican Dream project and set forth
my work here, as this is where my true heart lies!

This image doesn't show the real death zone yet. The peak on the left hand side reaches
an altitude of around 6000m. The valley at the middle lies around 2000m. The overal
height difference is around a whopping 4km!

The terrain is a combination of Alpine dems, altered with World Machine erosion, stretched
with TG2 and furtherly altered by shaders.

well, its a good start but at the moment I dont really see that the distance between the peak and the valley is 4km. Maybe add some reference objects or populations to show the scale....
"His blood-terragen level is 99.99%...he is definitely drunk on Terragen!"

Thanks!

I haven't quite figured out the populations yet, I'll add some when I know
how to do it  :)

Adding some cloud layers add nicely to the sense of scale. Another image to
please the viewer:

The mountain in the foreground is 3124m, the high one in the back is 5300m. The
deepest point in the valley in between is 1100m. The displacement in the foreground
adds to a better sense of depth :)

The second one is nicely composed.
