Here's a fairly high quality test render of one of the recent X-frog freebies. This one is one of the cherry tomato plants in .OBJ format (VG18_9). Just a few tweaks to the original file for specularity, translucency etc.
My only crit would be the colour of the unripe fruit - too blue for my taste! needs to be more yellowy/green, but overall a lovely free model.

Looking very nice. I think you could take the parts into Photoshop or another editor and change the color to a yellow/green. I think the youngest fruit is a deep green and don't begin to change color to yellow/green until they get a bit larger.

would be nice to mix colors directly in TG, to have some sort of height dependent = age like variation of color.

Just use a distance shader + camera or distribution shader inside.
