This is much more 'active'. The only suggestion I have is to crop render a small area of the sky. Then adjust the atmosphere sample quality and the cloud sample quality. They really help make things look good.

yeah, this is it, a great composition now. As Henry said it has a lot of action. I like it. The sky looks a bit funny still, and there are a few other areas you could work on, such as the plants. However, this was a nice thread to follow with an interesting end result, imho.

cheers,
Frank

Thanks for the comments guys.
The sky was actually rendered at quite high settings and the appearance is intentional.
Anyways I've finished with this and am moving on.

Hello, Kevin.

I'm a "Johnny-come-lately" to this thread but did want to add a comment.

I'm certainly not in a position to critique your composition, style and techniques being very much a newbie to Terragen 2.

I can tell you that your second picture is outstanding!  I can certainly feel the tension you've created in the scene.  I can only hope to be able to create beutiful renders like this as I get better with the application.

The one comment I would give you is to remove the tree trunk off the right shoulder of the cat.  For me, it is a distraction and in the way.

Thank you for sharing this excellently done render.

Regards,

Vandy
In the end, you will see

Here's a long overdue update of an image I made last May!
It now has much better quality grass and trees -thanks to Walli via NWDA.
Other credits as before.
The cloud quality has also been improved from 1 to 2 @166 samples. The render quality was upped slightly as well.
The clouds will still come in for some criticism, but any grainyness is not from quality alone. The effect I was after was of a dark stormy sky approaching a hot arid area. So the foreground is bright and well lit but with the visible sky dark and foreboding.
At 31hrs and 6.1million triangles this is the final.

This point of view puts one in the driver's seat; great work Kevin. The lighting gives the impression of early morning

Thanks for the thumbs up!

@ Redwolf The animals came from a free version of Poser5, don't know if they're still available.
But there's a free safari pack from daz3d at:
