Export height map from Terragen 2 to a photo manipulator

Hi guys,
I'm quite experienced with a host of graphical programs, but I just started using Terragen 2 yesterday.

At first, I tried out Terragen 1, and I was able to export my terrain data as a grey scale image in the .raw format. This was great because all I wanted to do was do some quick edits such as flattening out a plane, etc. After that, I picked up Terragen 2 and realized I could create much better scenes (or at least scenes with more flexibility for what I need). After I got my scene set up, I tried to export an image out as before, but I simply could not find where to do that. Finally, I right clicked on my heightfield generate item (in the node view), but I found I could only save .exr and .ter files. The .exr created a white image with no alpha, so that was no help.

Any ideas? If Terragen 2 is not able to create grey scale .raw (or any equivalent), are there other fast ways to adjust my scene? Barring modelling my mountains in max, zbrush or otherwise and then importing, what can I do? I only want more control, and an exported image seemed like a good enough solution for what I need presently.

And yes, I have already searched the interwebs, forums, and the user manual. It's not like I haven't already tried to answer the question myself, so please don't tell me to do a search. I only ask questions on forums when I can't find a solution after reasonable time. But it is totally possible that I missed it, so if anyone could point me in the right direction, that would be great.

Thanks in advance. :)

Hi,
you'll find one solution here http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=7223.0,
ten threads away from yours btw. ;)
And you could generate a ter file with TG2 take that into TG classic and export as
raw from there.
Hope that'll give you a starting point.

Thanks! Jeez, I guess I did miss it. ;)
Well, it worked. Phew! However, your approach was much faster than the approach in the thread you mentioned. I don't know why I didn't think of that. :)

Thanks again.
