Hi all !
Worked on this one all week...finally a week off from work ! Learned a lot of things on this one and thanks to all that share information and knowledge on the TG2 Forum.....this place is great ! Eventually may create something good enough to share !!!
Credits for this one are :
-trees from the XFrog collection
-bushes from Mr Lampost collection
-grassy layer from DandleO
-small tgc from Hetzen to make the snow-line less linear
....thanks again to all of you that share at the TG2 forum !!!
Take care all and a have yourselves a good day !

nice render,  :) i like the way used the trees
the mountains/displacements look a little odd to me, though its not really a problem for me.
WARNING! WIZARDS! DO NOT PREDICT THE BEHAVIOR OF OTTERS UNLESS YOU OBEY BIG HAPPY TOES.

beautiful mood, love the mid/foreground details and atmosphere the best here!

Dune

You did a nice job, Paul. I particularly like the way you have done the water, the patchiness. Great. The tree line and rocks look good, the only thing 'bothering' (not really, mind you) me are the backdrop mountains. They could be more natural with some extra work. You might try displacement intersection for some remaining snow fields, and keep the tops rocky.

Jonathan

Nice job Paul. I agree with Dune about the mountains, but the water / reflections and vegetation are good. The lighting is also lovely - very calming :)
Every problem is an opportunity, but there are so many opportunities it is a problem!

Paul really nice image. I like the mood.
Yes the Mountain could be a little different but strangely what is bugging me is the fog .
Kinda feeling that it covers the look just a little too much and i have to wait for it to disappear  :D

Have changed a few things and include a TGD and image of where I am ! Trying mostly to have realistic mountains at this point in time !  Not exactly there !

Appreciate all comments !

Add a little mist and this should look great

Thanks for the file :)
Without the TER file we only see the nodes and water etc.
But i put another TER file in it and it looks nice Paul.

Hi guys !

Thanks for the comments and sorry for the ter file...thought it was embeded in the tgd but the file is actually 33Mb in size...so this would not pass through !
I have made the file available on my .Mac account at the following address:

files.me.com/pclavett/bikrw2

Just copy and paste in your browser and the download should start automatically, file called "RockyIsland.ter".

This should download relatively fast on broadband and is not password protected. The file was conceived in Geocontrol (great software BTW !) and the adjustments nodes for size and height in the terrain section are to make it exactly as done in Geocontrol. The terrain actually came out exactly as it did in Geocontrol.....finally understood how to make the adjustments.
Anyway, enjoy the file if you want it.
Take care !

Paul

Dune

I had a look at your setup, Paul. I think you made it more complicated than necessary, so I stripped it considerably. You might want to add some stuff (maybe softer low altitude for the snow), but I think the basic terrain is almost good enough as it is, without redirects, extra rock and a double strata&outcrop shader. Check this out. Of course you may disagree  ;)

The colored strata file was missing, by the way, so it might be blander than it should be.

Hi Ulco !

Amazing difference and you are right in the fact that I probably try too much to complicate things with too many nodes. The difference is just impressive...that is, yours does look like the real thing. I will cherish this lesson and dissect your version so as to learn things. I thank you for the help and will post the final version with the acknowledgments of your fine contribution to the end product.

Much appreciated ! Have a great day !

Hi All !

Great lesson from Dune today.....too many nodes spoils the terrain ! With his help, the mountains are now much more natural and overall appearance that much nicer. Thanks Ulco for the help....it is much appreciated !
Have toyed with the tgd all day, learning from Ulco's changes and rendering test renders to see the differences when compared to my previous tgd. I finally settle on the following render and final picture. I have dropped the mist somewhat so as not to hide those wonderful cliffs and the distribution of the snow was adjusted to satisfy my needs. Note that with the "intersect underlying" function for the first snow layer did produce some funny circular lines at  the bottom of the snow layer that looked bizarre and the only way to make them disappear was to remove the function altogether (or reduce the intersect zone to almost nothing)...which of course spoiled the distribution....so finally....rendered as such and photoshoped them out !!! I hope that that is permitted in the TG2 world !

In any event, here is the final product and again I appreciate all your comments and suggestions.

Credits are the same as above with of course the addition of a generous contribution by Dune on the mountains and snow ! Again Ulco...Thanks a bunch !

Take care all !

Paul
