Hi everyone,
I know I've been pretty silent as of late: I've been busy with other things. However, I'm still a co-administrator of
Terragen.org, and I just want to take a second to update you to what we've been up to lately:
- In our downloads section we have nearly 250 user-created Terragen-compatible objects, that can be used for free in scenes as long as you mention the model creator and aren't using them commercially.
- We also have about 150 heightmaps, both sources from high-resolution DEM data and created by fantastic artists in World Machine and Geocontrol.
- We have over 75 .tgd and .tgc files that freely share techniques and settings in TG2.
- We just revamped the site theme (It's cooler now, I promise!).
Here's the big thing, though: we also have contests. And they're different from what you're used to.
Terragen.org is primarily geared towards hobbyists: those who don't have time to understand all the ins and outs of TG2, who can't spend days at a time perfecting an image, and those who are just starting out and looking to build their skills in a more structured way.
Not many people around here know that every month, we run a contest called AMFI, or Ashundar's Monthly Featured Image. It begins on the first of every month, and closes at the end of the month. Given a theme, artists are expected to create their best interpretation, post the image in the
Terragen.org gallery, and then have it voted on by the
Terragen.org community. The winning image gets placed on the home page of
Terragen.org until the end of the next contest. If you're interested in participating, check out the guidelines
here.
We're also planning on relaunching the old Image of the Week (IotW) contest. A weekly contest, this would emphasize speed of development and adherence to a theme, as well as use of provided presets and files. If this interests you, or if you have any ideas for what else you might want to see in this contest, feel free to join the discussion
here or post something in this thread.
