Actually modern brain science is starting to show that our memory is not nearly as accurate and indelible as we all think. I wish I had an article link at hand, but if you search around a bit I'm sure you'll find some newer stories on it. Quite fascinating though a bit disturbing when you think about how much of our lives rely on memory! And, at the same time, it makes the arguments over recollection of events and whatnot a lot less surprising and frustrating, so long as you accept the fundamental plasticity of our brain and, therefore, our memories.
