Going above "1" for render quality

I just tried typing in a "4" in the render quality box, and it looks like it is doing something different than when "1" was in there.

So does anyone else change the value to something higher than 1?

Does it make a big difference?

Thanks,

Scott

Yes, Time!
There's really no need to go above 1.

I think I've gone as high as 1 maybe once and that was just out of curiosity. Usually stay at 6.5 - 8, rarely higher.

You should really listen to the others on this one! Or you will end up rendering until your old and grey! Probably should stop that render, it wont be worth the extra time.
It has been eaten.

Get back to us in 2013, when it's halfway done.   :P

So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

It did finish, but I didn't really see much difference... Took like 30 times as long...

Heh, you must have meant 0.65, 0.8?

Good.  You had me worried (not really).  I'm glad you asked, though.  Having the freedom to try different values is fun, but it's sometimes good to see what you can find out first.  Usually anything more than 1 is too much in most of these blanks.  Some might even allow higher numbers, but check the defaults to see what the settings are first.  These defaults are pretty good measurements of what will look good (usually).

I went as high as 2 for one render. I needed more detail in some far mountains, but that was at a lower resolution. When I did the final render at high res I found the detail was there at detail level of 1. I pretty much stick to 1 unless I'm really curious, and usually only a cropped test render.  :)
