Just a scene to test blending objects out over distance. The real grass is just built-in grass clump objects with a few stray sprigs of one of Walli's for the longer variety.
All the grass models are blended out just around the nearest little rise in the ground and the trees begin to become replaced by procedural shaders as their distance increases until there are no more models at all. Hopefully it's not too obvious. ;)

Cheers! :)

Very effectively done! I think perhaps extend the blend-out point just a bit (and remember it will be dependent on render resolution). But this result is already nearly seamless. The color variation in the grass and the few scattered longer bits really add a lot of realism. The clumping of the grass being subtle in some areas and more pronounced in others is a very nice touch, the area on the left is fairly evocative of real places to me. Also love the subtle rays in the sky. I really like this one!

Edit: I do think the trees are a bit too dark, blobby, and in the background in particular rather triangular/regular looking. But it's a small issue I think. Maybe up the translucency.

Cheers, Oshyan. I think I could probably add some lateral displacement to the fake trees to help with them being too triangular. The Sun right in front doesn't help to light the real trees, indeed, I should up the translucency there.

Looks good! It looked at first a little too clean to me Martin...especially after the grass part...but why not :)

dandelO

Re-rendered the real trees and shrunk the fake trees in the distance to help a little with camouflage.

I might look for a new angle or lighting here, something out of the sun's glare next, if I carry on with it. Trouble is, I can't have too much light hitting those distant trees, they're really best faked with backlighting. As long as they're kept in the distance enough to be eaten up and obscured by the haze, and I don't move the sun too far round, it should be fine.

It should go slightly bigger if you click it, Ulco. But, yes it is only 1280x600.

Thank you, all! :)
