This one started out as an erosion test.

The terrain shape looks really good to me. Good building block!

I think you added the snow to soon though. I would go back and add much more details to the surface.
For example, the ground looks like it is all covered in the same dirt. I would limit that by angle, and work on some stone details. boulders, organic debris and so on.
Then put the snow back on.

Great start and good job playing with depth of filed. :)

Thanks TheBadger. I just looked at my image again and it's been re-compressed really bad (down to 180Kb) by the forum. Even though it says the previous actual size by the thumbnail. Does anyone know what the maximum individual file size is? It used to say in the attachment area but now only says the total.

File size allowance has actually been *increased* for the new forum. There is no max size *per attachment*, instead there is just a 5MB maximum size for all attachments in total for a single post.

Thanks Oshyan. I re "save for web"  in photoshop and it's fine now. I must have forgotten the first time.

No problem, glad to hear it.

Version 2.

That looks very very nice. Only needs a bit more colour variation and some slight grains on the surface.
The clouds could use a bit more samples/higher quality setting.

ballezballez

Wow!

Is there any tgd file like this on File Sharing forum section? It would be very nice to experiment things with a shader like this !

TheBadger

Great! This is already getting close to photo quality! What a huge jump from the OP :o

Very nice. You really nailed the rock scales/distribution ratios for me. What would make it even better is to have some smoother areas and variations over a larger scale.
Just because milk is white doesn't mean that clouds are made of milk.

I agree with everyone, very good looking terrain texture. I bet that took some time to nail down.

Superb render - light, scale ...all lead to realism. Yes, some color variation would help. This deserves just a few more tweaks. This reminds me of a very high altitude where few things grow.

Thanks everyone. I've been having a hard time masking fake stones shaders. I always end up loosing the textures or that one rock I really liked. I've been reading some of the more recent forum posts about it and that's what has helped in this situation. I have some color variation but it seems to get covered by the rocks. I'll try get some more variation in the rock coverage for the next iteration.

Close to the final version I think.
