Did not have a chance to see what the improvements are. Hopefully it will work better.
Does anyone here who uses this software know what improvements were made?

I still haven't had the time to learn Daz studio. So I still don't know how useful it could be in my work flow.

Daz studio, not worth a toss.

Hi Andrew,

So how about some details as to why it's "not worth a toss."

Hi Andrew,

Yeah! Because if you have already explored it, and know its worthless. Than please explain why so I can take DAZ off my to learn list. I really don't want to waist any more time on software thats a dead end!

I had thought that I could use the figures in DAZ and export them to Mudbox or other programs to work on (as a base for my own characters)
But Mudbox, for example, has a base figure anyway. So is there any value to keep DAZ Studio on my system? Is is pretty clunky, and if it has no value I would rather just get it out of here.

Please elaborate!

Software is only useful to those who have a use for what each person needs it for. Just tools, nothing more so what works for one person may not work for another and honestly it is about personal preferences as well. What one may dislike another may like.

Yes, of course you are right. And I agree with you.
But sometimes software companies make a turd. And a turd is a turd is a turd.
Only dung beetles build with turds. So is DAZ a steaming pile or what?

I have explored Daz studio, on a number of occasions. The renderer stinks so bad it's like a whore house in Billingsgate at low tide, radiosity is confined to 3rd party plugins, with every other package including at least on GI solution as standard. Surfacing tools and results are awful, what other packages have produced well for years, Daz is still struggling with.

Daz3d, like Poser is mostly frowned upon in the industry with most of the releases aimed at a dubious portion of the community, whose attempts at producing 'art' can only be called pornography.

Now, obviously price comes into this and free or cheap software is always going to have people saying 'hmmm that must be crap' but look at Terragen and look at Blender, they both produce stunning results in the right hands and are incredible value for money.

True but the industry has dark secrets ... When I last worked in Bristol I remember a shout going out across the studio "Anybody got Poser on their laptop I can borrow for an hour?" I did and lent laptop to bloke who went and exported a posed model. The model was then cleaned up, rigged and animated in Maya. Probable saved the studio a couple of days.

Very true Richard and I keep a set of already exported poser figures, just for that purpose but all you have to do is look at the majority of items sold for Daz and Poser and you'll see it's mostly geared up for the Geek in a basement with a leather fetish ;)

ROFLMAO ;D

They should have called it Gimp Studio, except that some other software has the dubious honour of taking the name.

Too funny!

So this does work! Thanks richard that answers my main question. I figure Ill just use DAZ to get a model as close to what I want, and then export it so I can take it the rest of the way. I dont think there is anything bad about saving time and stress. I just will never tell anyone I used DAZ. Lest they assume I also make my own porn. ::)

Thanks guys, this was the long way round. But it was hella funny.  :P

It definately works and is great for background characters but as soon as you get close enough to see them properly people are going to know it's Daz.
