A final test of the tire tracks.

No interest here; and, I guess I can see why.

A little hard on yourself?  As an artist, you're going to have to get used to both negative criticism and disinterest.  Many of the photographs I've taken that I consider my best ones, have never sold a single print, while what I consider lesser images, sell many.

This scene in particular, is actually pretty good.  It's a bit dark, however.  But I noticed your scenes are kind of set up as though there should be something more going on in the foreground

choronr, unless you intended to make your image dark and foreboding, consider letting plenty of light in. Make it an inspiring place to be. Let those colorful trees come to life with plenty of light, even heavily shadowed light. You want to pull the viewer into the image, not keep them just looking in from a distance. Do that with light.

@ Pat and UponInfinity : Thanks to the both of you. Yes, should have worked more with light and/or GI. Fill lights would have helped as well.

Took Ryan's suggestion and opened the camera exposure a bit ...think it looks better.

Keep going Bob, don't be afraid to really push up the exposure and contrast.  Here is your image with a simple curves adjustment done to it to illustrate what I mean.

I don't think it's the exposure you want to adjust chornor. If you look at the edited image, the clouds on the left are becoming over exposed to the point of cloud details getting lost. Also, by increasing exposure you also increase noise making the image grainy. In addition, when you increase exposure, you increase the light across the entire image where it would be much better to increase the light in selected areas of the image by capitalizing on shadowing, which you can do with a light source such as the sun. And lastly, too high of an exposure and your colors start to become over saturated making the colors start to look garish and blowing out valuable mid tones. Keep the expsore at normal (Terragen's "normal" anyway) and introduce light into the image using a light source such as the sun. Control the light. Your image is well worth fussing over because you've captured depth using a good balance of foreground, mid ground and far background. Don't let even the slightest blemish persist in this image.

There are some thick clouds in the shot. If you guys want to change the light why not use Dune's nodes for target punching holes in the sky?

Pcook,
I am not sure changing the exposure in TG2 will *necessarily* burnout the clouds. It looks to me like Archer just set it very high to make his point obvious. Choronr could simply increase up to or just before the point where he would start to get blowout. But the scene is mostly pretty well lit. an exr and some good post would probably do the trick. Also, even ansel adams got white hot clouds, if the point is photo realism all of the time than over exposed clouds are going to happen necessarily (unless we are making paintings here? Some do).
I agree with your overall ideas though.

choronr,
The only other thing I would say is more plants and colors. But thats what I always say to myself.
It has been eaten.

Thanks to all of you here with some excellent feedback. The image has two suns which the second one that I added is almost 180 degrees opposite the primary but at a lower elevation. At this point, I am finished with this one since I'm beginning to work on another project taking all these great ideas into it.

@Badger: One does not always find a large variety of vegetation in certain environments; but, I'll keep your good suggestion in mind for next time.

Once again, just a notice to Oshyan, I am not getting email notices from Planetside that there are responses to my thread. Hope you can fix this.

Oshyan

Bob, are they possibly going into the Spam folder? Badger recently mentioned this was happening for him...

Thanks for getting back Oshyan. No sir, I checked my 'junk folder' and it is empty. Also checked my alternate email (gmail) and there are no replies there either. Please keep me posted.

I really don't now what to try next Bob. Others, including myself, are getting messages from the forums. I looked at your profile and you are subscribed to quite a lot of threads that should be notifying you. You have the feature to *automatically* subscribe you to threads you post in or create turned off, but I assume that's because you like to subscribe manually only to certain threads. You could try enabling that option, it's under Modify Profile -> Notifications.

Oshyan i have the same problem about notifications.
I manually look at the responses mostly especially the last 2-4 weeks or so.
Not sure why. And they are not in the spam folder Oshyan.
I have the same problem on another forum.
Bob do you have the same problem on Terranuts?

Not a big problem but a little annoying of course.
