This is actually a reworked image. Hope you like it.

First image is the original older version.
Second image is the new reworked image.

Cool!

I like this stuff, like where these images are going too.

Are the parameters your working with on the terrain to make the fractures and light animatiable?
Could make a nice animation if you can get everything to move in the right way, somehow.

DandelO did something in the same vain http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBov5fouL-A
I cant tell just from the images though, if you would be able to get the explosion needed to work. Be interesting to see though!
It has been eaten.

The fractures are based on a voronoi 3d function. The light in the cracks comes from a simple surface shader/default shader combo.
So I might be able to animate those. May take some time to figure it all out...

nicely set up!
I like Impact Cataclysm the most... The voronoi looks great!

Great improvement!
Though there are some points of the first version I lke better:
-Having the impact on the nightside makes a much more dramatic contrast
-The flying debris could lok great with minor adjustments
-The ball-like cloud gives a better impression of threedimensionality than the diffuse one, although the latters strukture is much more interesting, maybe you can combine that...

Still experimenting with Mahnmut's suggestions. Here's the first result.

Nice.
If you allow another comment, the whitehot point of Impact in the second version is one of the strong points in my view.
Anyway, three great renders!
