Can you give us more detail on which maps you used as I can't see any DEM data on the website

cyphyr

The data you want is the "Land-Form Panorama" about half way down the page.
Comes as  DXF [Contours], ASCII grid [DTM], NTF [DTM]
Quote from: OSThis product is supplied both as a set of contours and spot heights (Contours) and as a gridded digital terrain model (DTM).

Technical details

Format: Contours: DXF™. DTM: ASCII grid and NTF.

Tile size: 20km x 20km

Data structure: Vector.

Resolution: Contours: vertical interval of 10 m. DTM: grid points have a post spacing of 50 m.

Scale: 1:50 000.

Update frequency: Unmaintained.

Supply: Online download and DVD.

Coverage: Great Britain.

It comes as a 530MB zip download that includes both Contour and DTM (Digital Terrain Map in NTF and ASCII format) data. I used the DTM ASCII data.
You need to give them an email address to send the download link to.

Hope this helps

Being a Somersetian I am of course biased, I love this Richard!!! Gonna have to check that site out. Are the data sets easy to get into tg?
Cheers (my dears)!!!

I loaded it into Global Mapper and saved it out as a GeoTiff, simple as that. I think here's some free GeoTiff converts. I know there are some free NTF converts, there's some links on the forums somewhere.
Gota couple more brewing, hopefully tomorrow:)

Does anyone know of any free or cheap alternatives to Global Mapper?

Very nice feeling you have here! Cool rays too!

cyphyr

Ok here's another iteration, this time from effectively the opposite point of view, the other side of the island. I'm  not quite so happy with this one and also I have realised that I've loaded the terrain tile too small! They come as 20km tiles and I've loaded it at 10km! This may end up as a happy accident since the compressed terrain may give a better "feel" for the landscape.
C&C as always welcome :)
Hmm, lighting's all right but I don't think much of the cloud actually.

Ok here are some updates. Pretty much the same scene each time, just changed the camera and sun position and changed the cloud.
C&C always welcome.
