Probably a stupid question. But can you add sound to a .gif? At all? Or is this completely not possible?

Ok thanks. Thats what I thought, but I was hoping it may be possible.

So is there any way to make posts that have both motion and sound, but do not require a host like Youtube or Vimeo?

Basically like a gif, but with an option for sound? I would have thought this would have already been invented. Kinda surprising if it hasn't. Now Im not talking about HiFi or anything, just a way to embed an audio clip with the image sequence.

Is there any thing like this, but perhaps just not popular yet?

That's what video is *for*. ;) Or a Flash presentation (ugh).

Well your right. But uploading a video to youtube or vimeo for a 8-15 second clip is annoying when you only need a few frames ps to get a point across. So gif is a great solution for that, it would just be nice if a little sound could be added.
I only have one specific reason to want this, but I can imagine many more.

Although, one thing I hate about gif is that they load and run on a web page without being told to do so. If sound was added to that it would be really annoying.

Hey Oshyan, are we able to embed youtube vimeo video links to the posts here? I really cant remember if I have seen that here before or not. I don't believe I have. I am talking about being able to click and play video here, but where the video is really hosted some place else, Im not sure what this process is called.

Vine. You want Vine: http://vine.co/ ;)

And no, I don't think you can embed videos here at the moment, mostly for security reasons (by default). The functionality could be added, I believe.

Well if others would like it, may want to think about it. I just have a few reasons for asking my self. But it sounds good.

Though I have noticed that the videos here get far fewer views than the images, and thats a little sad. May help if people don't have to leave planetside to see the posted vids. Maybe not, I dont know. Its late here and I will talk in depth about anything when its late.  ;D

Dont know what security problems it would create. But I would not want to see any problems either.

Thanks for telling me about "vine, Oshyan. I don't know much about this stuff, and most of what I do know is only because of the interests I picked up from coming here.

Alrighty then. Now there's a YouTube and Vimeo embed. :-p If more sites are needed, we can look into it, but limiting it to these two limits our exposure to security issues on embeds. :)

To use it, you can use the buttons in the full WYSIWYG post editor (a little YouTube icon ir a V icon), just paste your video link in the post, select it, and click the button to enclose it in the right tags, or use the BBCode tags directly, like: [youtube]http://videourlhere[/youtube]

Let's see if this works. If yes, it's a great idea! Not meaning to hijack your thread, Michael, just testing...  ;)

EDIT: I noted that you have to take the s out of the https for it to work!

Nice to have. I love embedded videos for a 1st quick view!

Here one old YouTube video of Nicolas Hoffmann, which brought me also to TG (beside the annoying popularity of Vue ^)

Greetings, Alex

Yeah this looks real nice!
I like how the video box can be integrated into the post message the same way a still image can. It gives us more control over the way our work is viewed, well not much, but a little. Also it takes no time at all to play the video this way.

I do like the vimeo box better, because at the end of the video you see more selections from the original video maker, but the youtube box displays content from whoever else, and its not at all related to the post subject. Also Vimeo feels better designed.
Ok Im just blabbing now.

Ulco, I am pretty sure I have hihjaked several of your threads before (as well as at least one thread from everyone else too) so I can't complain. But your on topic anyway, so I dont think this can be a hihjack ;D Also, that video is really great! I like it better seeing it this time than I did before. And I liked it a lot before.

Thanks Oshyan!

Bjur, I like that vid you picked too! The trumpet blasts really cut right through me.

I should make sure I know how to do this too. Ill test it tonight.
