The rock is an imported object I made in 3ds max. First I tried to use the native sphere object, which works fine, but since it's not yet possible to populate objects in TG, I decided to create it in another application, added some bushes, trees and some ground cover made with the ivy generator and imported the whole thing into TG. The human model is another free sample by 3dscanstore.com.
For the rock I used image map shaders for the diffuse colour and for the displacement. The roots at the bottom of the rock are made with Ivy generator too, but without the leaves.

Nice image Hannes .

When i saw the man like he is looking around
he looked like a man who awoke after a heavy drunken party the other day and don't know where he is :)

Hannes

Yes, this is a nice explanation, Kadri!  ;D

EoinArmstrong

Wow, that's brilliant - poster-quality.  I have a lot to learn.  Thanks for posting this!

mhaze

Excellent,  I wish I could get TG to produce rocks like that.

j meyer

Another good one. 8)

ErrrHum....,looks like the guy from the commercial finally managed to ride his rock. ;) ;D

Dune

Splendid render, Hannes. I really like this very much. I am just experimenting with another ringworld (what has that got to do with it? Well it has), and found that you can use a planet next to a sphere to populate upon. In your case, why not use a distorted planet instead of a sphere? That can be populated. In my case I needed the planet, but turned off to populate upon and the sphere with no shadows to make the ringworld.

cyphyr

Very nicely done.

So with no populations at all on the island, how many separate objects did you end up needing?

Fantastic image Hannes, that is one fantastic looking rock! Hopefully, someday we'll be able to generate such a rock within Terragen.

It has been eaten.

Hannes

Thank you, guys!

@j meyer: I think you need to explain this a little more... ;)
@mhaze and Bob: I did some tests with the internal rock object that has some new features (see attached image). I added some image map shaders with cylindrical mapping and combined them with some procedural created surface layers. So actually it is possible to create such rock objects in TG.
@Richard: There is a population of trees on the terrain below. For the imported rock object, which had already about twenty trees on top of it (that now serve as bushes), and some instances of ivy generator objects (with and without leaves), I added three more hero trees and the guy. Plus the flock of birds to the upper right.
@Ulco: I had this idea in mind, and actually I don't remember why I haven't tried it

j meyer

I'm refering to that TV commercial where some guy works in a garden or park or so to clean
it up (or whatever he does there) and then that big rock starts going up like a balloon with
some roots hanging off of it and some water running down and so on.Then it's free floating
and the guy is still down on the ground and hands a tool to the viewer saying:it's your turn
now (or something like that, don't remember exactly).

choronr

Thanks Hannes, as soon as I complete a project, I'll jump in an start investigating this rock object.

Great, Bob. Looking forward to your results.
@j meyer: Now I remember that commercial! I remember my girlfriend saying "Hey, this looks like Terragen!" Really!

TheBadger

Cool rock! Make more!
