Got sidetracked into this cave, and encountered some problems. Tg can't handle the vector displacement perfectly, as in some POV's some 'triangles' were not rendered (though they were visible in the preview), so sky shone through. Increasing the displacement tolerance doesn't help. By carefully choosing the POV it can work out ok, proof attached.
Another problem is populating stuff inside the cave. You can copy location and set the pop there, but it took quite some effort to get them really inside the cave, and not on top of the mountain above. E.g. I had to set the location at the entrance of the cave and use a large pop size to cover the inside. If I'd pick a location near the camera, and even with a height restriction, objects didn't pop inside the cave. If I pop just outside the cave, and restrict by SSS to inner area, no instances appear.

Can confirm the missing triangles thing.I also encountered that when
trying to position an object inside a cave.
Can't say anything to the population stuff, haven't tried that as of yet.

Yeah...how do you make a cave, again?  :o

Look for threads regarding VDISP or vector displacement maps. You have to make such a 32bit map from an object in something like ZBrush, then apply that to displace terrain in TG.

Cool, c'est ce que je cherchais à faire.

Cool, that's what I wanted to do.

Genius at work. Looking good Ulco. Somewhere down the road, we may be seeing stalagmites.

Dune

Stalagmites/stalagtites are not too hard if you use nice rounded dots to begin with, and displace them vertically. Done that, but not this time.

What program did you use to create this, Dune? - I cannot get zbrush to do this - it is frustrating me  greatly.
