Upon opening TG3 I am getting a crash error (OSX 10.9.1). TG seems to be trying to open a sample file I looked at last time I launched it, and cannot find what it needs so throws an error and crashes after I click OK.

I deleted the TG2 folder and it did not help.

I would like to launch TG fresh and have trashed the .plist files, but this scene keeps trying to open.

How would I reset it?

Hi,

First off, this problem isn't because TG is trying to load a previously opened scene. TG doesn't do that. It will load fresh every time.

From the dialog screenshot you posted it looks like something is seriously messed up with your copy of TG3. I would suggest you delete the TG3 application (Terragen 3.app) and then install fresh from the disk image. Let me know how you get on. You can email me at jomeder@planetside.co.uk if you like.

Jo

Hi Jo, thanks for your reply!

I managed a screenshot during the split second TG3 was up before the crashes; maybe it can help.

BTW, I launched 2 different copies of TG3 with the same results, one already in the Applications folder and one from an external drive software archive backup.

I went to a different computer and launched a second backup copy of TG3 with the same crash.

Finally, I downloaded a fresh copy from Planetside onto the second computer, still getting crashes.

Hi,

Are you getting the same dialog with the same text each time?

The screenshot confirms what the dialog is saying, thanks. It's crashing because it hasn't been able to load one of the important plugins.

This is a very unusual problem, even more so as it's happening on different machines. Is your second computer running OS X 10.9.1. as well?

One thing which might help is to reset the Launch Services database. I'm not 100% sure it will help but it's something to try. This will probably change any custom file associations you've set up and maybe effect any custom icons you're using. There is a post on Apple's support forums showing how to do this using the Terminal on Mavericks:

https://discussions.apple.com/message/23607344#23607344

It's in the second post. If you try to copy and paste the text of the terminal command just check it doesn't have any spaces where there should be any. For example when I tried it one part said "fram ework" instead of "framework". I would restart after doing it.

Yes, 9.1 on both systems I tried.

I just brought my software backup drive out to a computer lab with an iMac running 10.8.5 (never ran TG on it) and got the same results.

BUT: I detached the drive (license file was automatically saved) and downloaded a new copy of TG3 (not the demo) via Macupdate.com. Copied it to the Applications folder, and this time no error.

I also did the same on the other 2 iMacs that had the problem, and again, no errors!

Does MU have a different copy than Planetside? FWIW, MU listed TG3 today like it was updated, but I don't think it was since October, right?

I will replace my backup copy with the MU version as well.

Hi,

Well, that's exceedingly weird. I've tried downloading from the Planetside site on OS X 10.9.1 to check if the download was corrupted but it's fine. I don't think it's an application code problem, I think it's either the application you have was corrupted or it was something like the Launch Services database.

I don't know how MacUpdate got their copy but you're right that it hasn't been updated since October.

I take it you were launching the app via double clicking the application directly? Or were you doing it some other way (Launchpad, Spotlight, double clicking a document etc.)?

Regards,

Jo

I was both launching from the Dock and double-clicking directly.
