TG 3.1 Geo Image Map WIP

Inspired by PS's intro video (Planetsides Youtube) I started experimenting with 3.1's dem & geo image map options. Works very well IMHO, Qty 24, 16mb jpeg 2000 tiles. TG ate them pretty quickly along with the dem data (img format) Certainly lots more work to be done on this, but its nice to be able to have this as a base that is for sure.

Those are great, and you're right, it's a nice starting place.  It wouldn't be all that much more work to add all the small power, high frequency detail to really sell it.

Danny, are you doing this just the way in Oshyan's demo? Everything went the way you thought it would? Or was harder than it looked?

Hey Mike,
  You are correct, its the same procedure as Oshyans video and its pretty straight forward.

This looks pretty neat.

The weird hue I mentioned on Facebook seems a lot less here at home on my Eizo screen.

What you may like to try is to fiddle a bit with the gamma of the textures.
The textures are satelite images and already have atmosphere over them.
This makes them look a bit bland/pale here and there, because there's also TG atmosphere over it?
I'm thinking out loud here...

Perhaps I should check this video as well as I have never used this approach.

Thanks Martin, spent some time tinkering with the gamma last night in TG increased it quite a bit, however never really got what I was hoping for but certianly better. Ideally an editor for jpeg2000's would certainly do the trick, currently I don't have an app for doing this. Here's a quickie. Added a PF, redirect as well as some TG textures and dodgy lighting.

IMO, you might need to tone down your light colors. They are way blown out on my monitor. Takes away from everything else.  ;)

Correct, I am fiddling with the overlays, be back hopefully by the weekend with some more adjustments

Hi Danny,

I'm noticing some of the landscape features in the images don't line up too well with the DEM. It looks better in Google Earth. For example in that last image you posted you can see that wee lake isn't at the bottom of the scree but kind of up on the side of the hanging valley it's in. It's shifted about 100m to one side. I'll have to look into this more.
