Just playin.............. :)

I like it. Wonder if receive shadows on the clouds from the objects would enhance it.

Is that Jack's nemesis, drone 166 coming in for maintenance?

Tried receive shadows on this one...........I think it looks better. Thanks for the suggestion fleetwood.  :)

Yes Greg...........that's 166 sneaking in at daybreak.  ;)

If you're referring to Receive Shadows in the clouds, there is virtually no difference in your images from that (compare them by flipping back and forth), and I would not expect there to be (except for much longer render time). I do see a change in the lighting on the ship though so perhaps you meant some other kind of Receive Shadows?

I like the scene, I just think the lighting is extremely dull (gamma or exposure issue perhaps even). I would brighten it up by 2x at least. Check out stills from the movie for example:

Oshyan :  I was thinking that the space platform or pod might potentially cast their shadow on a visible area of the clouds. Apparently the shadows do not fall nearby or are diffused.

I hope I'm still correct in thinking that for any object to cast a shadow on clouds the "Receive shadows from surfaces" must be checked in the cloud quality tab.

A test render of a cube above cloud. Receive shadows unchecked is on the left and Receive shadows checked is on the right.

Adjusted the lighting.................... :)

Fleetwood, yes you are absolutely correct. But even with casting shadows in this scene I think the result would have been subtle and probably not worth the added render time.

Yossam, the new result looks great! Much better to my eye. Granted it's daytime now and not dusk, but I think if you could maintain this level of brightness/exposure but have a more sunset lighting, it would be great too. Just don't lose the brightness! Remember that in real life with a real camera you would increase exposure compensation as the light got darker for sunset, to maintain a "good" level of exposure of the scene, so just because your scene gets darker as you move the sun toward the horizon doesn't mean you need to keep it that way. ;)

Last one.................... :)

Nice SF attempt. I like the "bright" one best as it looks most "friendly". Other ones seem rather apocalyptic. :P

I really could have used those clouds back in December of 2013 doing the backdrop for the shot where Jack's awoken in the middle of the night after the Resource Gatherer explodes off on the horizon.

I wish I could.  Apparently there's no Terragen artists in the Los Angeles area other than Matt.

^^ Ah, so thats why he has not posted in a while. I thought he did DD stuff by mail  ;D . But who would pass up the California sunshine after the winter we just had?
Then again, I thought Evolution made it impossible for people from England to be in direct sunshine for more than 5 min at a time?
It has been eaten.
