Thanks for these links, David. I too thought they were either photo's or photo/CGI based matte paintings. But small images are hard to judge. Very roughly painted can look like a photo then. His paintings are huge! I once painted a mural of 12x2meters and that took ages and wasn't way as detailed as this (as far as you can see). The hues and light are wonderfully realistic.

He uses acrylic too. I did not believe they were oil paintings at first. But then I saw he also uses mixed media.

Those images look like the most super real paintings I have seen before. Other than air-brush, I don't think I have seen painting this real that were made with a hair brush. Its a little hard to tell though because the images are so small. I would really like to see one of these in person!

But OH MAN. I think you have to be just a crazy good painter to make money as a painter these days. Im sure the guy in the OP is doing just fine in that respect.

It's actually fairly soft and lacking in detail, in my opinion, but still very realistic looking.

More detailed, but remember it's 60 inches high and nearly 240 inches wide (20 feet!).

His work is great. My feeling though is it's not in the detail but in the colors and representation of light. Our brains are very good at filling in detail as long as the overall shapes and tones look right. I think he captures realistic shapes, colors, and contrasts superbly well in his work, so even though the strokes may not be that detailed (given the size of the paintings), the work still looks very realistic.
