THis links to a video of Ed Catmull. Is that the same Catmull as in "Catmull-Rom"??

Wow! Renderman for free for non-commercial use.  Wonder with the upcoming TG SDK release if we'll see a Renderman option here?

Well if any of the renderers out there shares the most with TG it's Renderman.
As a matter of fact it's the other way around ;)

I have no idea what the SDK will look like and would be able to do, but hooking Renderman to it seems very unlikely to me.

Yes. He's brilliant. He was part of the Renderman thing, too. And Photoshop. And subdivision surfaces. He didn't do it all by himself, but he was a major contributor if not the catalyst in all of these things.
