That's a cool image Hannes :-).

Great image!!! I'm curious as to how you managed to get multiple instances of greeble?  I've tried it before but have never managed to get it to work.

Hannes

@mhaze: this is quite simple. I created a simple plane with four or six length and width segments with a length of 150m. I then added a greeble modifier with minimum and maximum height of zero, but taper of twenty. No widgets. If you check "select top" and add another greeble modifier you'll have space between the blocks. You can play with the settings and use an edit mesh modifier to select some faces you want the next greeble modifier to be or not. So you can add several instances of greeble, but be aware that at some point your RAM won't be enough.

There is no terrain, just objects and clouds. All objects are made by myself except
the little ships in line and the buildings inside the floating "greenhouses" (DAZ) and
the trees (free sample by Evermotion).
The "city" was made in 3ds max with multiple instances of Greeble, a free 3ds max plug in,
and then textured with diffuse-, alpha-, specular- and displacement maps.
It took quite a while until I got the glass shader right...
Postwork:
contrast, color grading, lens flare and chromatic abberation (again ;D)

Wow...dunno how I missed this except maybe 2012 was a big music year for me when I made my cd...fabulous Hannes...great work on the glass. Everything else as well....great concept.

Clap clap! Fantastic work. I love the intricacy and detail!
It's not who you are that matters, it's what you do.

Sometimes it's good to bump the older great images when we have a new lot of folks posting eh? It is an inspiring image that shows what TG3 is capable of in a wider sense.
