While writing a GI cache file, if a crash happens, will it be ok to restart from the next unsaved file (sequence first) ?

If I have several computers, can I separate the GI cache file writing, like PC1 1-500 PC2 501-1000 PC3 1001-1500
and grabing all the files for the rendering step.

Same question about the rendering sequence. Can the images be rendered on different computers ?

Thanks for your answer

While still working on Windows version of TG I got crashes that left black spaces in the image even during GI cache precalc. This did not "spoil" my final renders.

The answer to pretty much all your questions is yes, David.

N-drju, black spaces during rendering are often memory related, especially if a crash is involved. You probably know that already, but I just want to say that it's not normal behavior, and that when black areas show up, they should be resolved and not expected to "not spoil final renders".

Thanks a lot Oshyan. That should save a lot of time

I think we misunderstood each other, or I misunderstood kaedorg. ;) I understood that he asked whether a crash during writing GI cache file will result in strange lighting in the final image or not. In my case, even if black spaces did appear during GI cache precalc I could still use that GI cache file with the final image and get correct, naturally looking lighting and this is just what I was saying.

Probably what's happening is that the GI calculation process evens out any sharp dark areas, but the GI solution still probably "incorrect" due to the black areas. I mean, assuming they actually represent black/incomplete areas in the GI cache. I haven't seen anything like that myself, and would have assumed that if tiles fail to render during GI cache generation, that it would crash before final image rendering. But I guess not.
