My today's question is whether it is possible, to create really big projects with TG3 while keeping things natural.

Specifically what I mean by this is whether populator will point down to the earth when you venture, say, near the equator. I remember that I wanted to do something like that in TG2 long time ago but it turned out that all instances were pointing upwards and not towards the sky. When I was moving the population area far away from zero coordinates the populator was venting off to space instead of sticking with the planet's surface at a fixed altitude.

Besides, camera controls were going bananas the farther from zero coordinates you were going. Even more so, terrains based on large image files also had issues of their own (specifically they could be laid down the planet only down to the equator.)

So to make long shory stort - have any (all?) of these got resolved in TG3?

Many of those issues have been fixed either in TG 3 (as of 3.1 in particular). Population Lean To Normal helps, as Bobby pointed out, and there were specific terrain displacement improvements that help with terrain on the "other" side of the planet, away from the 0,0,0 coordinate origin. Navigation can still be a challenge, but with the ability to specify orbit point and adjust other aspects of the camera mode, it isn't too bad.
