I agree with Pablo here. History learned that odd versions are best so far as they are indeed developed by a different team than the one which produces the even numbered versions.
Last news about Windows 9 is that the start menu will also be back (like it will be in 8.2) as well as that a desktop user can configure Windows 9 to skip the metro UI entirely.
Especially the latter is good news, so hopefully before they drop maintenance/updates on Windows 7 they will release Windows 9.
I have much more confidence in that upcoming version.
