I just wanted to say, that it's a pleasure to work with Terragen!
I recently had to buy a new computer, the old one died. Now I have an Intel quadcore and 16GB RAM, which is a quantum leap for me since my previous machine had only 3GB.

I am working at a space scene at the moment with the earth in the center of the image.
I got three image maps with 43k px resolution each. I have an old Photoshop version installed, which is a 32bit program, so no chance to open one of them. Then I tried Irfan View. I could open one of the files, but it was only 21k, when it was loaded.
XnView didn't work either, and GIMP opened it and then refused to respond.

In Terragen I could load all the three maps into the appropriate Image Map Shaders, and it worked like a charm.
Incredible piece of software!!!!!!!

I totally agree, even with an older 2x255 3Ghz dual core with 8G ram I noticed major improvements...the 64 bit thing helps as well I think but I'll not be doing finished renders in anything but ever again. Even TG2 Full kicks most apps butts....and I have that, thank you very much.

Yes, there is some kind of magic working in the image loading routines. I think they might choke on the very highest resolution images that I have tried (81,000 pixels square), but it's still pretty impressive. :D

Also, Hannes, really glad to hear you finally got a new machine! I hope to see even more amazing images from you (and more often :D ).

You're right, Bobby!

Thanks Oshyan and T. U. ! I know, I don't post that much images. I'm totally slow in everything I do. Before I put an image into the forum I usually take a lot of time to improve it until I'm really happy with it.
I was quite TG-busy during the last months, but I was working on some projects and I can't show anything yet.
My new machine is quite a timesaver now, and again: it's really fantastic to work with this amazing software, and I really appreciate that we have the opportunity to talk to you, the makers of it, directly.

Anyway there are times when I don't want to do anything with TG. Can you imagine that? It's like eating your favourite food for a whole week. Every day. Even thinking of it makes you almost throw up.
But then after some time, when you look at the clouds or just the landscape, the thought of creating something in TG pulls you back to the computer and hopefully your creativity is back.

Oshyan

I know exactly how you feel. I think it happens to all of us. Looking forward to seeing what you've been working on... :)

Good on you, Hannes! A decent machine makes a lot of difference. But do try to share more half-products, it's nice to see some development.

Glad to hear that. Your talent deserves such a computer.
Waiting for your next pieces of art.

Really glad for you Hannes! You deserve more power/freedom to work.

I think that all of us agree with you, Hannes, Terragen is incredible! and very happy for you and for your new machine... this give me more hope to realize something special with my machine! ;)

This also means that FreeImage - the library we use for most of our image loading - is doing a good job :)

Images are OK but what impresses me about the software is how incredibly stable it despite loading it with tons of real displacement and also tons of 3D objects.....yes it will crash once in a while but relatively rare for what you ask it to do.....and compared to previous experience with the competitor.....this software is awesome !!! (No need to say the name of the competitor but it starts with a V !!!) I have set up scenes with hundreds of nodes and several million instances and still Terragen keeps handling it with little complaint except for the rare crash....simply important to remember saving often.
Only note is to remember the Mac crowd in future developments.....just moved on to the new Macpro and would hate missing out on future add-ons.....that move to possible SDK and possible plug-ins is interesting if it involve us Mac addicts.....wonder if Matt or Oshyan can shed some light on this ??? I remember the first Terragen when things were available only for the Windows version and hope the new Intel based Macs can prevent this from occuring again !
Again appreciate all of Planetside for making this incredible piece of software and eager to see future directions !
Thanks all !

We plan to continue Mac support, certainly. In theory the SDK should allow Mac plugins to be developed. Because Matt is creating it, the examples and some of the instructions may include aspects specific to his development environment (Visual Studio I believe), but the actual plugins are C++ and I believe should be possible to create in any suitable IDE. Thus should be possible to create on a Mac. Hopefully Matt will correct me if that's wrong. ;)

Thanks Oshyan and BTW...another great thing about your software is the price....still very reasonable....even for the professional edition !
Take care !

I add my voice to Hannes'. TG is the main reason why I built a render farm. It is also at the center of my main focus now which is to create technology for mixing live action with indoor and outdoor virtual sets. Most of the outdoor backdrops are CG landscapes created with Terragen. I am using my own studio as a test bed for proving this technology.
