Hmm, only available in 8bit formats it seems. I wouldn't recommend. Their source data is just the USGS, which you can download in georeferenced, native GeoTIFF format right from the National Map Viewer: http://nationalmap.gov/viewer.html
Plus their highest resolution data for some (if not all) of that area is 3m/pixel, whereas this data sounds like 10m/pixel (might have read it wrong).

The page says it's 16-bit. I'm trying it out now.

Yes it's definitely 16-bit and Terragen reads the 16-bit data. Then I converted it to 8-bit to see the difference and there was much more stepping.

Here's a .TGD with the correct horizontal and vertical scaling for this file.

Ah, well, fair enough (I forget PNG can do 16 bit, heh). It's still inferior to the native DEM data though due to georef, native scaling, and higher resolution in said data. This is maybe "easier" to use? Certainly easier to *download*, I'll give you that.
