I just noticed that normal maps are only visible in the shade.  Is there any way to get them to be visible in direct sunlight also?

Not sure what you're referring to. Bump mapping? Can you give an (image) example?

Yes, I'm referring to bump mapping.  It appears that it is very visible in the shadows and not so much in the light.  Not sure why it would be so different like that in different lighting.

Oshyan

Not sure but you may be seeing the effect of GI Surface Details. Have you adjusted the strength settings at all? Try disabling it.

No, these are all default settings.  Does this mean that this isn't the bump map?  And actually, I don't want it disabled.  I want it spread to the areas that are lit.

Have you tried Ambient Occlusion?....that brings out stuff in shadow sometimes.

You'll have to make a map for that and combine it with your diffuse map.
In case your app can't do such a map you could try xnormal.

There is no button and no change of cursor either.
Just click the text line.

I was just suggesting you disable GI Surface Details to test whether that's what's responsible for what you're seeing. Once you narrow down the source of the effect you like, it will make it easier to figure out how to make it show up everywhere (if possible).

Do you have a displacement applied to this model? That's the only time bump mapping would be used (assuming Raytrace Objects is enabled).
