I used to rock climb. But I dont do it anymore. I sorta lots my nerve about it. But even when I climbed, this would have made me sick.

This one is really beautiful. But I thought he was going to smash into the ground at one point... a few times really.

I can see why. This one reminds me of a radio tower in the Houston area that collapsed and killed seven.

I think a video like that could easily be done with a green screen and footage from a UAV. The disconcerting thing about the 2nd video is that the guy's head is stuck in the middle of the picture the whole time. Makes him seem like a mindless zombie. When he turns his head the world seems to turn instead with his head remaining centered. Might be better had the camera been mounted on his torso instead but then he could no longer aim the camera using his head.

Badger,

I used to climb as well. And I can hardly watch that first video! That's too much exposure!

What sort of climbing did you do? I only did some basic sport climbing and bouldering in Colorado, peaking in the 5.11 range. I never did any multi-pitch trad stuff, though I wanted to try it at least once. And I always dreamed of climbing El Cap, but it was just a fantasy for me. I'm much too afraid of heights for that!

Have you seen the stuff Alex Honnold has been doing in recent years, those big wall free solos? If not, look him up. I can't believe how calm the guy is in those places. And for super-hard sport routes, Adam Ondra has been kicking butt.

Ah, to be in my late teens and early twenties again! Those were the days. My time climbing contains some of my fondest memories.

Did you ever see all the crazy footage of Dan Osman speed soloing and doing his rope jumps? What a guy!

Tell me about it :P But I guess it balances. I don't feel invincible anymore, but I am happier in a lot of ways. Not that I'm old yet, but I can see that down the road now.

I don't know the people you mentioned but I will look it up on youtube. I climbed with my buddies, simply because there were places very close by to do it.

climbed here an uncountable number of times: http://static-dev-climbing.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Jules-Cho-Devils-Doorway-Devils-Lake-475.jpg
Never used a rope once. Could not afford gear back then. Didn't need it though. though to tell the truth, I should probably be dead a hundred times over. All balls and not much brains those days. We knew that place so well we hiked and climbed at night.. Called our selves the Midnight Nature Club. ;D There may or may not have been chemicals involved, I really don't recall right now  ::)

I will still climb there now, just not up the walls and stuff. Bolder hopping and just making my way up the tumbled rock areas is still enjoyable, and I don't have to think about splitting my skull open, so much.

@ Pablo
Something like that happened in Milwaukee '99 or so. These things must collapses a lot? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gjib_I_ab84 I worked for ABC affiliate then, I remember mixing the raw video people gave us. Getting it all matched and timed from the various POVs. It was sorta a grim task. I remember thinking that it felt like a movie... Then the Cole happened, then the towers in NYC. And that's all I recall from that few years... Now that you made me think of it, its been a pretty shity decade and a half...

The mid to late '90s really were as good as its gonna get :o >:( I feel a government/banking rant coming on.

That Devil's Doorway looks like it might come apart while you are climbing it!

Climbing at night, with chemicals involved? Yikes! Glad you made it through that time! ;) I remember hearing about some climbers in Boulder who used to climb multi-pitch routes in Boulder Canyon, Eldorado Canyon, and the surrounding areas, often on acid, wearing shirts that said, "Blotter is my spotter!" Crazy bastards!

Anyway, I've pretty much lost the nerve to climb as well. A bit of age takes the warrior out of us!  ;)

Here is where I learned to climb:

As for the some the names I mentioned, look here:

Dan Osman died on one of those rope jumps.

Its not a giant place like your links. But its got everything in terms of difficulty, just at a smaller scale.

ITs a super super nice park though. One of the nicest and well kept that I have ever been in.
